Purpose

More Than a Cup to Hold
Before a business model, there were people we hoped to make room for. Our four founding purposes begin with them.
If someone asks us one day why we founded QINGYUNJIAN, we hope our answer begins with people.
The four founding purposes of QINGYUNJIAN
People who have retired and still want to participate, with experience they still have to offer. People in the middle of their lives, carrying responsibilities and a dream they have not yet finished. Young people standing at the doorway to their first business, full of enthusiasm but unsure where to begin. And people who want to take more thoughtful care of themselves in everyday life.
In our vision, these people were never an afterthought. Our four founding purposes begin with the question of whom this business should serve. If we can build a working commercial system, who should gain more opportunities through it? Could those opportunities reach beyond the few who are already ahead?
Tea is where we have chosen to begin. From here, we hope to build a business that can gradually carry these wishes.
A life worth participating in, after retirement
Retirement may mean leaving a role. It should not mean losing the opportunity to participate in the world.
Experience remains. Judgement remains. An understanding of people remains. So do the patience, responsibility and sense of proportion gathered over many years. Our hope for older people is to consider seriously how they might participate in the long-term value of a real operating business.
Our original proposal called this direction a retirement passive-income support plan. Behind that working title was a wish: that the later part of a person's life could remain connected to a growing endeavour. We hope to explore forms of participation that reduce the burden of day-to-day operations while respecting each person's choices, abilities and capacity for risk.
That wish must rest on real operations. A shop needs to be run well, costs understood, cash flow sustained and arrangements clearly defined. Any form of participation still requires further design and review. Good intentions cannot turn returns that have not been achieved into a guarantee.
Precisely because promises cannot be made lightly, we must take the work seriously. A business that wants to offer opportunities should strive to deserve people's trust. Years from now, we hope QINGYUNJIAN can respond to more than what someone used to do. We hope it can also ask what they would still like to do together.
Another chapter in the middle of life
Professionals in midlife often carry a wealth of ability alongside a weight of responsibility.
They understand work and their industries. They know how to bring order to a difficult task. They have already given many years, yet may not have the spare capacity to start again from nothing and shoulder every uncertainty of a second business alone.
Our second founding purpose is to explore a path towards a second career and a second source of income, where experience can find renewed use. We want to build a system that can make room for professional ability: a shared brand, learnable processes, management with a clear basis and data people can understand. What someone brings should include their judgement, organisational skills, relationships and responsibility, alongside any financial commitment.
We hope that, one day, a person will not need to discard everything they have been in order to move towards what comes next. The road already travelled should become a source of strength for the next journey.
A new business still requires learning, effort and responsibility. Our task is to turn the experience we can accumulate into clear rules, and recurring problems into processes we can improve, so that those who join later face less unnecessary uncertainty.
What we cherish is the possibility of still being able to say: there are things I want to do, and I am still willing to begin.
Somewhere for a young person's enthusiasm to take root
When young people first think of starting a business, enthusiasm is precious. It is also easily worn away.
Between an idea and a shop that can keep operating lie products, training, purchasing, service, staffing, rent, food compliance, cash flow and the small problems that arise every day. Any one of them can come at a heavy cost to someone who is unprepared.
That is why our purpose of supporting young entrepreneurship and passing on knowledge centres on gradually building a brand, standard operating procedures and a platform. We hope to turn what earlier participants have learnt into something the next generation can understand, use and continue to improve.
Passing something on involves more than handing over a name or a menu. It should include why a task is done a certain way, how to make decisions when problems appear, where innovation is welcome and which principles must be protected. What deserves to be passed on is the ability to turn enthusiasm into sustained action.
QINGYUNJIAN must undergo its own validation too. We cannot present a system that is still developing as a ready-made answer. We can start with the first shop, record carefully, face problems honestly and gradually organise what we learn.
If young people in the future can avoid some unnecessary detours because of that work, and use the energy they save for products, service and new ideas, this endeavour will mean something beyond ourselves. We hope to leave firmer ground for those who come next.
Bringing care for ourselves into everyday life
Our fourth founding purpose is broader health and wellbeing.
If that idea remains only a grand concept, it can feel far from daily life. We want to ask whether people's concern for quality of life, food choices and self-care can find a response in experiences they encounter more frequently and can participate in more readily.
Tea offers a starting point. It can connect with different situations in people's lives and leave room for further product exploration. Uplift, in our proposal, was an exploration around the post-exercise setting: an attempt to find new connections between tea and everyday needs.
We value that direction and must also respect the boundaries of what we say. A drink should not be presented as treatment, and a vision cannot replace nutritional evidence. Any future description of a recipe, nutrition or function should rest on real information and the relevant standards.
Our wish is to make caring for ourselves a choice we can consider thoughtfully in everyday life. To give a contemporary expression of tea a place in more people's days. To make every product improvement worthy of the cup we place in a guest's hands.
A purpose needs a business that can stand
Older people, professionals in midlife, young entrepreneurs, and health and wellbeing: behind these four directions lies a shared question. How do we make our intentions last?
Moving words alone cannot do it. Nor can a founder's enthusiasm, however strong. There must be real products, reasons for consumers to choose them, operations that can be sustained and a system that keeps improving.
Our proposal therefore brings together physical operations, cash flow, standardisation, brand assets and long-term organisational ability. These may sound like the language of commerce, but they matter to whether our purpose can survive the hardest periods.
If we hope to help others, we must first do the work of building this business well. If we hope to create opportunities for more people, we must take every cost, every commitment and every unproven assumption seriously. A purpose needs people to protect it. Operational discipline is one way we do that.
We want QINGYUNJIAN to become an endeavour that can accumulate knowledge, be passed on and make room for more participants. The wish is large; the first step is specific. Make the cup in front of us well. Do the task in front of us well. Keep the people willing to trust us in mind.
Born to Ascend. For us, that direction should include those travelling alongside us.
If QINGYUNJIAN can go further in the years ahead, we hope the road will include people who still want to participate after retirement, people opening another door in midlife, and young people bringing their enthusiasm to the next stage. We hope it will also include ordinary guests finding a reason to return, sit for a while and enjoy a cup of tea.
That is the purpose we hope to protect: as the business moves forward, people have an opportunity to move forward with it.
